A recent article sheds light on the current advances in artificial intelligence. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has developed, with the help of hardware manufacturers like IBM, “Eddie” a virtual being with child-like aptitude at intellectual reasoning and thought. Utilizing logic and specific algorythms, and a multi-million dollar computer, the engineers at RPI are working on developing Eddie in the popular online simulation Second Life. The popularity and ease of use of Second Life has proven to be the most effective incubator for Eddie to grow. See the RPI demonstration above.
The engineers and researchers aim to develop this technology for the future, with the goal of implementing powerful AI into video games and other interactive media. Nice. Like I really want the zombies in Resident Evil to be as smart as me!
