What better way to end Halloween than to go nuts with the super cool, highly energetic (to the point where it’s almost terrifying) Polysics? Come to the Mercury Lounge tonight to see Polysics and three other awesome bands (DJ Oil, Black Gold, Jaguar Love). First act at 8:30, Polysics go on at 11:30.
Check out their newest video. See you there!
(PS. Better have a sweet costume — it’s Halloween!)

It’s been a while since we last caught up with Nakanari at his Technobabble show here in New York City. Since then, the Orlando based designer has been working on numerous projects ranging from a t-shirt line, customs for Kidrobot, and most recently, his very own vinyl toy. The ever pointy Ninja Spiki is scheduled to drop in early ’09 and will come adorned with an equally pointy array of ninja weapons (a katana and two shurikens). Nakanari has provided us with a glimpse of the final prototype. Follow the jump for more.
Thanks to the invitation by our friends at BMF media, we joined “Perez Hilton’s One Night in NYC Party” on the Friday night of CMJ week. Combined with the fresh feel of new, underground, youth inspired music it was nice to kick it back and bump arms with the crowd there. To those who aren’t aware of Perez Hilton (no, not Paris Hilton), he’s a well known (almost notorious) celebrity blogger. And with an array of guests including Semi Precious Weapons, Lady Gaga, and Yo Majesty, this rocking lineup kept us there until the very end. Oh, and our favorite part? We get to add graffitti to Perez’ face this time.

From a photographer’s standpoint, last Friday’s show at the Knitting Factory was both beautiful and terrifying. My camera took a couple direct blows from drumsticks, was soaked in airborne beer multiple times and may have been responsible for another show-goer’s concussion (that one’s kind of hard to explain)–but there was always something keeping me from heading to the back of the crowd and taking photos from afar: the element of surprise. More photos after the jump.
If you’re anything like me, you’re positively quivering with anticipation for the chance to get your hands on Takashi Miike’s Sukiyaki Western Django, a film that looks like a delightfully bizarre hybrid of Samurai and Western films. This clip gives a tantalizing tease to the workings behind the scenes of what truly appears to be a project of sincere passion on Miike’s part. The film is due be out on DVD in a couple of weeks, so hopefully we’ll know soon enough if the film is the proper catalyst to returning Japan to the world’s cinematic forefront as Miike hopes it will.

This year’s festival was truly legendary. The advanced screening took place on Sept. 28th at NYU Cantor, and spread over two weeks, located at Tribeca Cinemas and Anthology Film Archives, the NYTFGP2008 Festival Part One kicked off without a hitch. New Yorkers, interested by the wide spectrum of genres, talent, and creativity came to enjoy the spectacular showcase of Japanese cinema. For now, take a look at the jump and relive some of the experiences, and otherwise keep your eyes and ears tuned for Part Two coming later this year!
