Hey, remember that live-action version of Akira we keep hearing about? Well it seems to really be happening at this point. Leonardo DiCaprio recently announced that he would be a producer for the film (as well as a live-action Ninja Scroll) via his Appian Way production house. Oh, and someone managed to get their hands on the script.
My take? Well, as a rabid fan of the original (I still consider it to be one of the greatest pieces of animation ever created), I suppose I’m contractually obligated to be against any sort of live-action remake regardless of its country of origin. That said, just going by the script review, it actually sounds like those involved really are tying their hardest to make this work. And honestly, so long as it doesn’t turn out like this I think it’ll be alright. It certainly can’t be much worse than the live-action Dragonball movie due out soon.
