I guess the upcoming CGI Astro Boy flick has significantly reignited interest in Osamu Tezuka’s work since two new film adaptations of somewhat lesser known (in America, at least) manga are being put into development. The first two are (presumably) animated adaptations of Princess Knight and Buddha. The two stories follow a princess who has been disguised as a boy her whole life to protect the throne, and Siddhartha the founder of Buddhism, respectively. Both mangas have been released in America in various collected states while Princess Knight even had a tv series and theatrical movie. This will be Buddha’s first film adaptation. The third film will be a live-action affair, based off of Tezuka’s MW suspense manga, set to premiere in Japan in June.
