On Tuesday night I had the chance to watch the highly anticipated Blu-Ray DVD release of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete at New York – Tokyo’s advanced screening at Sony Wonder Technology Lab in midtown. FFAC is based completely in the realm of Final Fantasy VII, possibly the most popular RPG of the extremely renown series, Final Fantasy. I believe this film was created for the gaming community, much of the new plot is simple to grasp, however a lot of the film content is based on things that only people who have played the game would understand. That asides, regardless of being able to understand the plot or not, anyone can appreciate the quality of CG animation and unique and beautiful character design. There are also numerous high-pace action scenes containing fights with anime-like physics, which are rarely seen, and even more rarely done well in CG films. The Blu-Ray version contained close to half an hour of added scenes throughout the movie which helped fill in some gaps or give fans some extra screen time of their favorite characters. Being a fan of the game I can’t help but say this is definitely on my favorites list, however even if you’re not a fan of the game or have already watched it before I think FFAC: Complete is definitely worth checking out. You can get your copy when it hits shelves in the U.S. on June 2nd, 2009.
(BTW for you big Final Fantasy fans, I’m sure you already know this and if you don’t there is a playable demo of FF XIII as part of the bonus content on the Blu-Ray DVD. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to check it out, although I know a lot of us wanted to last night. The movie standalone is great, the FF XIII demo seals the deal for me. I’m definitely getting my copy on June 2nd.)
