The Powerpuff Girls syndicate started distributing their DVD collection in the US on January 20th (YESTERDAY!). NYT has some news to add to the recent Japanese “cute, cool, and crazy” buzz. This time the buzz is being powered by the energy of 6 girls – TsuShiMaMiRe in Japan and Powerpuff Girls in US.
TSMMR started their music act 10 years ago in Japan. Since 2004, they have been continuing their 7 time US tour with over 150 live shows including SxSW and their NYC show last year. They have accomplished in reaching out to over 100,000 people. Their sound may be a bit hard to get into at first, but after a few listens you can’t help but to enjoy their punk riffs, shrills, and wild sounds. Attracting a hardcore following, their debut single “No-miso Short Cake” was finally released last year in Japan and followed by the world’s strongest girls collaboration “Six Mix Girls” mini-album. Their fun music is complimented by great visual work. The “Six Mix Girls” (both Japanese version and US version) cover was designed by STEREOTYPE PRODUKTS (www.stereotype.ne.jp), a very popular design group known for their Ghost in the Shell poster design, collaborations with Takashi Murakami, and the opening movie production for Samurai Champloo. Inspired by the unique collaborations between TSMMR and STEREOTYPE PRODUKTS, CTN Japan produced the “Hyper Sweet Girl” music video directed by artist, Mitsuyuki Ishibashi (http://www.coo.st/1484/index2.html). This may potentially bring back the PPG in the US again. Take a look at our interview with them which was conducted after their Brooklyn show on September 28, 2008.

Metal Gear Solid 4 hits this week and I honestly can’t remember the last time I was this unbelievably stoked for a video game. Metal Gear Solid is my favorite game of all time and this final entry in the MGS series looks to answer every question and tie every loose end that’s been brought up since the series first began. But if you’re like me, it’s also been a while since you’ve played the entire series through. And given how complex the series’ story has gotten by this point, a refresher would be most welcome and thanks to an incredibly comprehensive post over at the influential NeoGAF forum you can have just that. This sucker’s got everything you could want to help prepare you for MGS4 with story recaps, character bios, screenshots, trailers, control scheme rundowns, avatars and so very much more.
And if that wasn’t enough Metal Gear for ya, be sure to check out the exceptional retrospective that Gametrailers has put together. The first five parts can be found here with the sixth and final part airing today.
