New York-Tokyo proudly launches its first annual Film Grand Prix!

The constant flow of unique, eye-catching film and animation out of Japan has been taking place for several years now, and New York-Tokyo has been there to document it, spread the word, and showcase it here in New York since 2001. With that year’s NY Anime Film Festival, 2003’s New York-Tokyo Film Festival, and our long-running Monthly Director’s Series, New York-Tokyo has been dedicated to exposing these wonderful films out of Japan to audiences stateside.

In 2008 alone, nearly 300 films will be released out of Japan, and we plan on introducing you to many of those films on the New York-Tokyo website with the New York-Tokyo Film Grand Prix (NYTFGP).

This project has three parts; first, it will act as constantly updated encyclopedia of Japanese film in 2008, with key image, film information and web links for many of this year’s films. Second, trailers for most of these films will be viewable just one click away. Third and most importantly, the NYTFGP will be a place where readers can vote on the films that they want to see the most! Those films that receive the most votes will then be screened at the NYTFGP MINI-FESTIVAL in early September at NYC’s Anthology Film Archives!

All titles listed have been provided by the distribution companies, filmmakers, sales agents, and creators that have made these films possible. It’s that rare film showcase shaped by YOU, the reader! Films are divided into eight genre categories-click on the corresponding buttons below to vote in each category.

*Readers who submit a vote for all 150 films in all categories will automatically be entered into a drawing to receive one of 10 all-access passes to the NYT Screening Festival in September! Can’t attend the screening? Vote anyway, because New York - Tokyo is also selecting lucky entrants to win a free DVD! To enter, you must also submit your contact information in each category.

2 - Vote for all the films in a category without leaving blanks!
3 - Voting ends August 15th at Midnight.
