RECAP

Wednesday night was our 5th NYTMN. This is the first time that the event was held in Williamsburg in Brooklyn. The party proceeded as usual with an Asahi Beer open bar and music by DJ Shinnosuke and DJ Keiichiro. With 3 projectors, Shantell Martin turned the spacious venue into her own world with her unique imagination visualized by vivid and colorful graphics. She combined those visuals with portraits of Rila Fukushima and other party attendees. Go Kiryu from King Street Sounds played his signature house music. With the good sound system installed in this new venue, Go’s precise DJing stood out this night. Due to some altercations outside of the venue, we couldn’t keep the party going until 4AM. But the event was meaningful as we had truly original and sincere artists, Shantell, Rila, and Go who were supported by dedicated fans and friends.

GUESTS

SHANTELL MARTIN expands conventional definitions of drawing, pioneering an area that combines improvised stream-of-consciousness live illustration and its intricate and complex relationship to music. By using an electronic tablet that works like a grown-up Etch-a-Sketch and allows her to literally draw with light, her performances promote serendipity and audience interaction. A graduate from London’s Saint Martins University of Art and Design, she recently relocated to New York from Tokyo, where she collaborated with musicians, DJs, and designers and garnered a number of industry awards for her unique and fluid illustrations.
