New York - Tokyo, as a part of the NYTFGP2008 Festival, will be joining Street Attack and Mark Batty Publisher in celebrating the launch of the long-awaited book “Graffitti Japan” by photographer Remo Camerota (who will be signing copies). We are very excited to see more Japanese graffiti getting some stateside exposure. The party will start at 7 PM on October 9th at Alphabeta Gallery at 70 Greenpoint Avenue in Brooklyn. Come prepared to have fun—there will be DJs, live art, and AN OPEN BAR. Come to the screening of DEATH OF DOMOMATA first, and let’s head over to the after party!
Stay tuned—we’ll also be posting an interview with Camerota as well as an in-depth review of the book.

For Director Izuro Kumasaka, creating his masterpiece is more than just an art form, it’s an entire experience. Although his movie ASYL - PARK AND LOVE HOTEL won the 58th Berlin International Film Festival’s “Best First Feature,” he would argue that films aren’t made for applause, but for the audience.
ASYL - PARK AND LOVE HOTEL will be premiering at Tribeca Cinemas on Tues. Oct. 7th as part of the NYTFGP2008 Festival Part One, and you can buy your tickets here. For the entire interview with Director Kumasaka, click the jump.
We spent the majority of today with the New York Anime Festival, promoting the NYTFGP2008 Festival Part One with the T.M.Revolution panel and booth. If you’re around this weekend, make sure to stop by and say hello and pick up tickets to tonight’s showing of Corazon de Melon.
In anticipation of the opening of tomorrow’s screening, we’re featuring an interview we conducted with Takanori Nishikawa, the main actor of the film who broke into the silver screen with this debut. Tomorrow’s screening starts at 6:00pm (doors open at 5:00pm), at the NYU Cantor Film Center. For the interview, follow the jump!
Looking at this stuff makes my mouth water. Too bad, though, because these are actually made out of miniature hand-crafted towels in the shape of a cake. It’s one of the latest from the Prairie Dog line from Le Patissier, and comes in all styles from the standard angel cake bundt to the cupcake. Don’t get me wrong, you really shouldn’t eat this, it’s more of, well, eye candy. Check it out at Japan C.

At the Beijing Olympics this year, an unbelievable amount of world records were broken due to the innovative Speedo LZR. And let’s face it, when it comes down to the swimming arena, it’s hard (if not nearly impossible) to beat someone like Michael Phelps. Yamamoto Kogaku, a leader in sports lenswear, created the Swans series to maximize comfortability. Just another high functionality, quality designed product from Japan C over at the Felissimo Design House.
See you at the Tokyo 2012 Olympics. (hopefully!)

I love video games. I also love any and all animation done by Studio Ghibli. So the news that Studio Ghibli is teaming up with the folks over at Level 5 for the upcoming Nintendo DS game Ninokuni: THE ANOTHER WORLD means that either someone is playing a cruel, cruel joke or there will soon be concentrated awesome in playable game form. Thankfully, though, it seems that the latter is true as Studio Ghibli will be handling the animation. The game proper is said to center around the protagonist’s use of a magic book (which players get a real copy of with the game!) to ward off evil spirits. Level 5 has a fairly strong track record when it comes to making solid games and, well, Studio Ghibli’s record speaks for itself. This could end up being something pretty special here.
