After winning all the games: Japan vs. France: 3-0, Japan vs. Australia: 3- 1, and Japan vs. Holland: 4-0, we proceeded onto the elimination rounds where we beat North Korea at 5-o. The semi final with France concluded with 4-2! Unfortunately we lost to Team USA with 0-3 at the Final. But the silver medal is a good sign of things to come in July and after!
We hosted the TEAM JAPAN (New York-Tokyo Soccer Team) PARTY at the beautiful Sushisamba 7 Rooftop on June 1st. It was the day after Memorial Day weekend. We celebrated the 2010 South Africa World Cup and the NYC Tournament. We were very honored to have South African Consul General, Fikile Magubane join our party with Vice Consul Leon Naidoo and Ian Walker, the president of Play Study Win. The Consul brought us an official 2010 World Cup ball (red!) and JAPAN shirts by FIFA.
TEAM JAPAN members (in suits!) welcomed our supporters with South African drummers, complimentary “World Cup” special appetizers, Japanese Sake, Asahi Beer, “2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa” video game, music by the DJ and special soccer performance by Team Japan with raffles and such. Attendees included Italy NYC team, Albania NYC team, ESPN, Copa NYC, and 90 Soccer. They all stayed later than the official closing time due to the excitement.
